 On-water Communication
VHF & Signaling Devices
During this 3-hour class, we will first learn how to properly communicate with a VHF radio. We will examine the uses of each particular call type and come up with some sample radio calls. We will then paddle out into Frenchman Bay, making a few channel crossings. Prior to making any channel crossings, we will make a securite call to inform local boat traffic of our presence. Once the coast is clear, we will cross the channel to get to an area where we will demonstrate signaling devices. The following devices will be demonstrated (weather permitting):
- VHF Radio Calls
- Signaling Laser
- Aerial Flares
- Handheld Red Flares
- Handheld Smoke Flares
- Handheld Air Horn
- Whistles
Cost per Participant: $45
Pre-registration is required at least one week in advance.
